Datuk Au Yee Boon, Executive Director of Prolexus Bhd said: “SIRIM has an impeccable reputation as a research, technology and innovation organisation. We believe this collaboration will help accelerate our internal research into the technological advancement of our manufacturing process.

“We actively invest in technological progress and innovation to strengthen our competitive advantage. This collaboration is an extension of our Group’s initiatives. For example, we have invested in a wide range of advanced machine types which could enhance Prolexus’ production capacity with modern seamless techniques, gluing and laminating construction to meet the increasing demand from customers.

Datuk Au added that Prolexus has its own Certified Information Technology Specialist (ITS) lab which is available at all times for its in-house lab testing.

According to Datuk Au, the collaboration with SIRIM will focus on three pillars: risk management, environment, social and governance (ESG) and the Group’s research and development (R&D) initiatives. This aligns with Prolexus’ mission to inspire and deliver its best innovation, speed and quality to create value for its partners.

As part of risk management, the Group will explore the potential economic value generated by waste from textile production lines. This is also in line with Prolexus’ ESG program. Apart from this, Prolexus and SIRIM will explore the potential of implementing solar energy initiatives in the group’s manufacturing plant. These initiatives could potentially generate savings from its current cost of electricity.

Regarding collaboration with SIRIM on R&D, the Group is confident that SIRIM’s track record as a platform to help commercialize innovative ideas, designs and mature technologies will serve as a catalyst for certain internal Prolexus research is gaining in importance.

Prolexus and SIRIM anticipate that the collaboration contemplated under this MoU will serve as a forum for collaboration between the two parties through a strategic alliance.

This strategic alliance will explore the possibilities of developing a joint proposal for any potential grant, designing joint promotional cooperation between Prolexus and SIRIM for marketing and advertising purposes, and exploring available government incentives to localize manufacturing and supply of textiles and clothing.

Cooperation under this Memorandum of Understanding will be managed by a steering committee composed of at least 4 representatives of Prolexus and SIRIM each and chaired by 1 of the representatives of SIRIM. The steering committee will help facilitate all formalities related to the preparation, negotiation and implementation of activities under this MoU.

“We are delighted with the collaboration with SIRIM. We are confident that this will benefit and strengthen our research and technology development. Additionally, in the longer term, we believe the collaboration will accelerate our growth strategy, especially in smart manufacturing, green energy and many other areas. Datuk Au added.
