Hayleys Fabric has recently blazed new trails for the Sri Lankan fabric manufacturing industry, becoming the first fabric manufacturer in the country to achieve “ISO 50001:2018” certification.

Hayleys Fabric’s determined journey to minimize greenhouse gases and adhere to the global sustainability agenda is progressing in the right direction, reducing its carbon footprint year-on-year from 3.8 to 3.2 tCO2e/MT.

“We are proud of our team and their commitment to sustainable textile manufacturing. To be the first fabric manufacturer in the country to receive ISO 50001:2018 certification for our energy management is a bold testament to our journey towards total environmental sustainability,” said Rohan Goonetilleke, Managing Director and CEO of Hayleys Fabric.

SGS Italy’s ISO certified audit team certified that Hayleys Fabric uses energy management systems (EnMS), based on the internationally recognized ISO-50001 framework for integrating energy management into existing processes. The voluntary standard enables organizations to establish processes that improve energy performance, including the efficient use and consumption of energy.

“Collaboration is essential in the fight against climate change. We are a member of the Climate Emergencies Task Force – Sri Lanka United Nations Global Compact and have engaged in the Science Based Targets Initiative – a first in the manufacturing industry. We are making good progress on the global Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) initiative and will achieve this goal three years ahead of schedule.

“Achieving ISO 50001 helps guide us in our plans to be at the forefront of new energy-efficient technologies and manufacturing practices – a key driver in meeting our customers’ expectations and our ambitious climate goals. “

During its journey, Hayleys Fabric has increased its percentage of renewable energy consumption to 68%, mainly through its rooftop solar panels, with steam generation by biomass boilers being another element. The company has implemented several measures designed to address energy reduction and conservation through process improvement, innovation and culture change through training on its energy management system .

Hayleys Fabric PLC is a pioneer in textile manufacturing in Sri Lanka, capable of providing end-to-end solutions from design to manufacturing, and was the first company in the garment sector to be listed on the Stock Exchange of Colombo in 2003. Maintaining a production capacity of 4.5 million m of fabric per month, the company stands as a premier partner for world-renowned fashion, apparel and accessories brands.
