bhilwara: textile park in Jodhpur? Bhilwara Bizmen livid | Jaipur News

Jaipur: Bhilwara’s textile industry is angered by speculation that a textile park announced by the central government in Rajasthan is coming in Jodhpur.
Bhilwara MP Subhash Chandra Baheria and local MP Vitthal Shankar raised the issue in Parliament and State Assembly respectively last week, demanding that Bhilwara deserves to have the park given its large-scale production textiles for years. “My sources in government confirmed that he sent a proposal to central government for Jodhpur park. They also identified the land in Jodhpur which is done purely for political gain,” Shankar said.
Sources have confirmed TOI that the government intends to take Jodhpur Park to cover areas like Pali, Barmer and Balotra. Here, political leaders from all parties fight for the park. Industry associations launched a signature campaign to write a bloody letter against the move and threatened to march on Jaipur.
Damodar Agarwal, President of the Bhilwara Textile Trade Federation said, “Bhilwara and Surat are the epicenters of textile production in the country. If the textile park is to come, these are the first two cities. Sharing the figures, he said Bhilwara alone produces 1.25 crore meters of fabric every year, while Jodhpur and its surrounding towns make up around 10% of their production. He claimed that Jodhpur is known for its industry/handicraft units, but not for its textiles.
